Extending the potentials of draw-forging

Abstract Composite components combine the benefits of different materials, leading to improved product properties, enhanced resource- and energy efficiency widening spectrum. Draw-forging is unique combination deep-drawing cold forging, where a core material encapsulated within thin sheet metal blank. Previously, basic draw-forging process only allowed covering shaft tip, covered length was limited by maximum drawing ratio sheet. In this work, failure types, including tearing sheet, asymmetric encapsulation, development gap in transition zone were investigated numerically experimentally axial encapsulation increased significantly. The usage anisotropic leads form fit enhances bond strength draw-forged hybrid components. An alternative route which pierced utilized partially cover specific section also developed. stabilized with novel contoured counter holder ensure high repeatability.
